SUMMARY:Inclusive education initiatives in Indonesia’s Islamic education sector: Reflections on the human flourishing concept

DESCRIPTION:Building on the concept of a human flourishing approach to well
 being and development, the panel is intended to explore the Indonesian expe
 rience with inclusive education. The Islamic education sector accounts for 
 a substantial portion of the Indonesian educational effort overall and the 
 tertiary sector plays a critical role. Islamic tertiary education instituti
 ons, particularly the State Islamic Universities (UIN) adapted and evolved 
 in the reform era post 1998. Through curriculum development, upgraded accre
 ditation and international collaboration the UIN\nsystem demonstrated a com
 mitment to high education standards and to ensuring access to educational o
 pportunity. The panel will demonstrate how the current generation of resear
 chers and academics continue to strive for educational excellence in a fait
 h-based environment through presentations highlighting the deployment of in
 clusive and equitable values. Papers will explore the challenges and ongoin
 g tensions with more traditional social and religious values and consider t
 he future of the sector in a time of rapid change.
