J. Linz DESCRIPTION:The “Washington Consensus,” once regarded as an inf luential guideline for policy reforms in developing economies, has largely disappeared, especially in Washington itself. At the same time, there is a growing retreat in confidence toward democratic governance. The future of l iberal democracy, which has traditionally been seen as a pathway to human d evelopment, is now uncertain.\nHow do changes in international economic and political orders influence policy and governance reforms in developing eco nomies? How can we foster effective cooperation to ensure economic well-bei ng across Asia today? These central questions guide our research project, w hich seeks to explore the dynamic interplay between global changes and dome stic policy transformations. These reforms are ongoing efforts, deeply root ed in historical trajectories, and vary significantly across different poli cy areas. Our project is a collaborative initiative, bringing together spec ialists from various policy areas to provide a holistic perspective on thes e changes. The Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries offer a comp elling case study of how developing economies reform and adapt in a time of geopolitical uncertainty, shifting power balances, and contested visions o f world order.
