DESCRIPTION:In recent decades, contemporary artists across Southeast Asia h
 ave increasingly turned to archives, historical memory, and personal or col
 lective pasts as sites of both creative practice and critical reflection. I
 n Vietnam, artistic engagements with the past are deeply shaped by historie
 s of colonialism, war, socialism, and rapid social transformation.\nTaking 
 Vietnam as its primary focus, this panel brings together case studies on Vi
 etnamese art practices to examine how contemporary artists mobilize archive
 s, historical materials, and memory as dynamic processes rather than fixed 
 records of the past. The panel explores how art in Vietnam negotiates the r
 elationship between personal memory and collective history, particularly in
  post-conflict and post-socialist contexts.\nWhile grounded in Vietnam-base
 d studies, the panel situates these practices within broader Southeast Asia
 n contexts of history and memory, without requiring direct comparative anal
 ysis. By foregrounding Vietnam as an analytical anchor, the panel seeks to 
 contribute to interdisciplinary discussions on art, memory, and the archive
 , and to reflect on how localized artistic practices can illuminate wider r
